Day of Surgery

Your physician, surgeon and/or the staff at North Texas Hospital will provide you with a list of guidelines you should adhere to prior to entering the operating room. In addition, below are a few basic guidelines you can expect when preparing for your surgery. The information your physician and/or surgeon provides you is the most important and should be followed above anything else.

  • Arrive early at least one hour prior to your scheduled appointment.
  • Do not eat or drink anything, including water after midnight the night before your surgery.
  • Please follow your physician’s specific instructions regarding medication, eating and drinking.
  • Make arrangements for transportation to and from the hospital. For safety reasons, you should not travel home alone – even with taxi service.
  • Notify your physician if there is any change in your physical condition such as a cold, rash or fever.
  • It is a good idea to wear loose, comfortable clothing and leave your valuables at home.
  • Do not wear make-up, jewelry or contact lenses. Eyeglasses and hearing aids are fine.
  • Please bring:
    • Proper identification
    • Insurance cards
    • Medical forms provided to you by your physician
    • A list of medications you are currently taking
    • A list of all your allergies
    • Any x-rays or diagnostic images
